Initially, the storybook rides you find in Fantasyland were designed so that guests could experience the attraction from the main character’s point of view - so guests on Snow White's Scary Adventure, for example, WERE Snow White - but for years nobody got it and guests would regularly ask where Snow White or Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland was. This was the main reason that Fantasyland was completely overhauled in 1983, and why today, namesake characters are featured in their own rides.
